Everyone’s got a personal brand brewing inside them.
Here are some building blocks that form the foundation of a personal brand.
Take yourself out to coffee and explore how these elements make you unique.
Discover your trade
There are way too many movies that start off with a miserable schmuck glued to a desk job they despise. Don’t be that schmuck. Your college major doesn’t have to define your career. With tools like open-source learning available online, you can upskill your way into a brand spanking new career. Combine your childhood dream job with your present-day practical abilities and discover what your trade is.
Know your audience and where to find them
Find your tribe and hang out at their watering hole. Observe whether your target audience is active on LinkedIn or double tapping away on Instagram. If they’re spread across a wide range of social media channels, tailor your voice accordingly. Some platforms are more suited to visual content while others respond better to written content. If you’re up to it, get groovy with video content too!
Allow yourself to be comfortably different
Everything in the world is a variation on a theme. Nothing particularly fascinating about either a croissant or a donut but the world lost its mind when the “cronut” stepped into the picture. Are you your industry’s cronut? Hone your quirks and polish them off with professionalism. Then, let the world take a big ol’ bite of you.
Keep the message and communication consistent
Consistency is key. Whether it’s an aesthetic on your Instagram or always signing your emails off with a snazzy one-liner. Your personal brand is your business card. While your actual business card may get squirreled away into the back of someone’s wallet, it’s your personal brand that will shine bright in the back of their mind.
