Our client, CIOMajlis powered by Smartworld, hosted its second annual conference this week. The event was awash with thought leaders from the UAE’s government and private sector.
Talks and panel discussions touched on a range of topics from the government’s mission to go paperless by 2021 to the future of digital education. Here are some valuable lesson the six-hour conference taught us:
The need to upskill – Modern job descriptions call for ninjas, rockstars and masterminds. While cool on the surface, the vague yet attractive nature of these roles comes with a reason. Ninjas don’t have a strict set of deliverables. Their missions vary from one day to the next. Similarly, don’t let your knowledge be limited to your bachelor or master’s degree. With job automation becoming increasingly prevalent, a surefire way to stay employable is by diversifying your skill set.
Business agility – While it’s critical for employees to remain open-minded about their work, companies need to do the same to ensure their survival during this digital shift. From the services they provide to getting comfortable with working remotely, businesses need to embrace flexibility and evolve.
Have a heart – The last thing you would expect Smart Dubai to be working tirelessly on is going paperless. Yet, the company is deeply invested in one of its biggest initiatives – Dubai Paperless Strategy. Smart Dubai aims to go 100% paperless by 2021. The driving force behind this ambitious mission is happiness. An estimated 130,000 trees will be saved, 4 million children will be fed and 140 hours will be freed annually by making a change as simple as using a tablet instead of a sheet of paper. Keep sustainability and welfare at the core of your business to survive.
